About Spring Point Project
Spring Point Project's mission is to provide an unlimited source of pig islet cells to accelerate the availability and affordability of islet transplantation to cure diabetes.
Spring Point Project is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt nonprofit organization presided over by a Board of Directors who provide leadership to the corporation.
Founded in Minnesota in 2004, Spring Point Project was born out of a grassroots effort to help make porcine islet transplantation a viable solution for diabetes patients in particular, the tens of thousands of people with difficult to manage diabetes. Its nonprofit status brings stability and control over all aspects of the project, and fits with the goal of bringing unprecedented research data toward a clinical application in a speedy and cost-effective manner.
A unique partnership has been established between the University of Minnesota (UMN) and Spring Point Project. The Schulze Diabetes Institute at the UMN is preparing for further preclinical research and clinical trials, while Spring Point Project has built and operates biosecure facilities is raising specially selected high health pigs in compliance with governmental guidance.
